The Ever Changing Emotions of Moving House

Even when a house removal goes to plan, there are a lot of changing emotions every homeowner goes through as the boxes are packed and plans get underway.

You’ll think You’re SO DIRTY!

It doesn’t matter how clean you are, how OCD, how often you cleans your skirting, some areas will be dirty. Areas you didn’t know existed. Tiny corners behind heavy furniture and the wall at the back of the kitchen bin!

You’ll Become Addicted to Boxes and Bubble wrap

When moving there never seems to be enough boxes or bubble wrap. Top Tip: Buy more than you need. The more you have, the more organised your packing, making it easier at the other end.

You’ll Have a Specific Apocalypse Point

At some stage during the packing you’ll stand in a sea of items and think “I’m packing it in boxes, why is it all over the floor?” This is the packing apocalypse when all of a sudden it seems like it will never end.

You’ll Find Useless Wires, Plugs and Chargers

Just where did all those mobile phone chargers come from? Have you really owned that many phones in your lifetime?

Emotions of Moving House: Extras

You’ll Lose the Cheese Grater

You have endless knives, no cheese grater and the potato masher… let’s not go there

You’ll Sway One Of Two Sentimental Ways

You’ll either become a hoarder, refusing to throw anything out or you’ll hire a skip and get rid of the lot.

You’ll Dream about Interior Design

When you’re shattered and can do no more you’ll drift off dreaming about the places you’re going to put the furniture in your new home.

You’ll Love the List

Lists are your friend.

You’ll Forget about Broadband Until You Need it

For years you’ve taken your internet connection for granted. Checking Facebook while in the bathroom, answering an iMessage or just getting in touch with companies via email. Now, no matter how organised you are there will be a gap and you’ll feel like you’ve travelled back in time to a disconnected 20th century era

You’ll Find All Those Missing Odd Socks

But you’ll have thrown out their twins when doing the ruthless sweep

You’ll Hate and Love Your Partner in Equal Measure

No matter how great your relationship there will be times when your partner infuriates you, just because they’ve packed your straighteners in a random box or thrown out the ends of shampoo bottles that you were saving for a rainy day. Then there will be the times when you could marry them all over again for just bringing you a cup of tea and letting you relax without worrying about home removals for a few hours.

You’ll Count the Days

You will be so ready for that move date you’ll be counting the days. When it comes, your things will be moved and so will you. Amidst the sea of boxes, the washing machine pipes and the bubble wrap, you can sit and say, “We made it”.

You’re Home!
